After Completing a bachelor's degree at South Dakota State University, Jeff worked at Our Home Incorporated in Huron, South Dakota. After 2 years he move to the Black Hills to work in Deadwood as a Child Protection Social Worker for the South Dakota Department of Social Services. One year later he went to work for the Unified Judicial System as a Court services Officer. While while working for the UJS, he obtained his Masters in Counseling through South Dakota State University, and later went to work for the South Dakota Department of Corrections Juvenile Division in an Administrative capacity. In 2000 he went to work with Regional West Center for Behavioral health in Rapid City, working in the outpatient and inpatient psychiatric hospital ward performing individual, group and family psychotherapy. In 2009, he went to work full time with Black Hills Counseling Services.

Jeff’s work includes hospital inpatient evaluation and treatment, clinical outpatient, group care, institutions, probation, aftercare, recovery, addictions, trauma and most mental health conditions with individuals ages 12 to 88 years of age, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnotherapy, in individual, group, and family therapy settings.

His Counseling Practice includes specialized work with Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Brain Injuries, Neurological Disorders, Anger Management, Domestic Violence, and Corrective Thinking, using approaches pioneered by Stanton Samenow, William Glasser and Albert Ellis.

Domestic Violence Counseling includes but is not limited to the following:

Kathy J. White, LAC, NCAC I, ICADC

Kathy Carson White has been in the Addictions field for 41 years, obtaining her initial Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor in 1988 while in the United States Air Force. Following her retirement from the USAF she was hired as the Demand Reduction Program Coordinator at Edwards AFB, CA until she moved to Sturgis, South Dakota where she obtained reciprocity as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Level II in 1998.

After moving to SD Kathy worked at Youth and Family Services in Rapid City as a Prevention Assistant until she was hired as a CCDC II at Northern Hills Alcohol and Drug Services. In 2012 Kathy began working for the Department of Veteran Affairs as an Addiction Therapist until she retired in April 2022.

Kathy is a Licensed Addictions Counselor, a Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor, a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), as well as an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.

SAPs are responsible for evaluating employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare. A SAP represents the major decision point an employer may have in choosing whether or not to place an employee behind the steering wheel of a school bus, in the cockpit of a plane, at the helm of an oil tanker, at the throttle of a train, in the engineer compartment of a subway car, or at the emergency control valves of a natural gas pipeline.

Kathy was appointed by Governor Rounds to the Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals in in 2004 and was reappointed for 2 additional terms by Governor Daugaard and remained on the Board of Directors until October 31, 2015. She is a member of the South Dakota Association of Alcohol and Prevention Professionals and Is the Secretary on the Addiction Counseling and Prevention external advisory board for the University of South Dakota. Kathy is also member of The Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Sault Ste Marie Michigan.
